Literary Challenge 2017!

As I did last year, this 2017 I want to have my own literary challenge again! I completed my Literary Challenge of 2016 and this year I want to increase the difficulty of the challenge a little bit. Although I only read three of the books I had on my initial list from last year, I managed to read 12 books and complete the challenge by adding new books to the collection and completing some trilogies. The books I read last year were:

  • Los Asesinos del Emperador, by Santiago Posteguillo. Trilogía de Trajano I. (part of the 2016 list) Buy
  • Circo Máximo, by Santiago Posteguillo. Trilogía de Trajano II. Buy
  • Childhood’s End, by Arthur C. Clarke. (part of the 2016 list) Buy
  • 2001: A Space Odyssey, by Arthur C. Clarke. Buy
  • 2010: Second Odyssey, by Arthur C. Clarke. Buy
  • 2061: Third Odyssey, by Arthir C. Clarke. Buy
  • 3001: The Last Odyssey, by Arthur C. Clarke. Buy
  • A Fall of Moondust, by Arthur C. Clarke. Buy
  • Half a King, by Joe Abercrombie. Shattered Sea Trilogy I. (Parte de la lista del 2016) Buy
  • Half the World, by Joe Abercrombie. Shattered Sea Trilogy II. Buy
  • Half a War, by Joe Abercrombie. Shattered Sea Trilogy III. Buy
  • ¿Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, by Philip K. Dick. (Book that inspired the movie Blade Runner) Buy

I think it was a good year. I managed to read Arthur C. Clarke’s complete Space Odyssey, and the Shattered Sea Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. Arthur C. Clarke was also my most read author in 2016. It’s an author I really like and I hope to read some more of his novels this year.

Literary Challenge of 2017

This year I’ve decided to increase the number of books slightly, to 15. So let’s see if I manage a good start and complete this challenge without problems. And, I will start as last year, with the books I already have home, which are also some more than last year. So let’s see what I have:

  • La Legión Perdida, by Santiago Posteguillo. Last part of the Trajan Trilogy. ✔  Buy
  • Hyperion, by Dan Simmons. (First part of the Hyperion Cantos) Buy
  • Dune, by Frank Herbert. (First part of the Dune Saga) Buy
  • The Call of Agon, by Dean F. Wilson. (First par of the “The Children of Telm” saga) Buy
  • 47 Ronin, by Shunsui Tamenaga.✔ Buy
  • A little history of the World, by Gombrich. Buy
  • A little history of Philosophy, by Nigel Warburton. Buy
  • Orcs, by Stan Nicholls. (trilogy published in one volume) Buy
  • Scrutator, by Ian Irvine. (Third part of the “Well of Echoes”. Since it’s the third part I may not read it until I have read the first two) Buy
  • The Blade Itself, by Joe Abercrombie. (The First Law I) ✔ Buy
  • Before They Are Hanged, by Joe Abercrombie. (The First Law II) ✔ Buy
  • Last Argument of Kings, by Joe Abercrombie. (The First Law III) ✔ Buy
  • Coldwood, by José A. Vargas. Buy
  • The Penultima Truth, by Philip K. Dick. Buy
  • Wédora, by Markus Heitz. ✔ Buy
  • Northern Lights, by Philip Pullman (“His Dark Materials” I) ✔ Buy
  • The Subtle Knife, by Philip Pullman (“His Dark Materials” II) ✔ Buy
  • The Amber Spyglass, by Philip Pullman (“His Dark Materials” III) ✔ Buy
  • Star Maker, by Olaf Stapledon. ✔ Buy
  • The Empty Throne, by Bernard Cornwell. (Eigth part of the “Warrior Chronicles / Saxon Tales”). Buy
  • Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes. ✔ Buy
  • A column of fire, by Ken Follet (#3 of the Kingsbridge Trilogy).

As you can see, some books from last year remain on the list while others have been added. That’s the problem I have. Book store I see, book I buy. But that doesn’t have to be bad. This way I have a wider selection and I even have two entire trilogies waiting to be read. At the moment I’m reading “La Legión Perdida”, to finish the Trajan Trilogy, and I may write a small article once I finish it.

So without further delays, on to the literary challenge of 2017!
